    There is something so retro about this portrait–did you chose 1950′s aqua for the background for that reason?

  6. I didn’t intentionally choose the aqua background to make the painting look retro, but I’m generally drawn to those kinds of 1950s kitchen colors. I think the curlers and the sepia colors add to that vintage feel, too. Thanks for asking. –Karen
